Global warming is the heating of the climate system of the earth for a long period, observed since the period of pre-industrialization due to certain activities of the human being primarily the burning of fossil fuels. It increases the greenhouse gas levels of the atmosphere of the earth which traps heat. It is thus measured commonly as increase in the average temperature of the global surface of the earth.

Causes of Global Warming

  • Burning fossil fuels-                The burning of the fossil fuels like gas and coal to generate electricity or power, releases pollution of carbon dioxide in the air.
  • Deforestation and cutting trees-         Trees and plants are the key factors for the regulation of the climate because they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen.
  • Farming and Agriculture-       The livestock like cattle, sheep etc and animals produce a greenhouse gas methane.

Effects of Global Warming

  • Rising sea level
  • Floods and storms
  • Economic consequences
  • Diseases
  • War and conflicts
  • Drought
  • Heat waves
  • Shrinking glaciers

Solutions for Global Warming

  • Boosting the efficiency of energy
  • Low carbon fuels for transport
  • Revving up the renewable energy
  • Reducing the usage of fossil fuel electricity
  • Reducing emission from deforestation
  • Exploring nuclear energy
  • Developing low-carbon technologies
  • Ensuring sustainable development
