Renaming of Ministries

    Recently, some of the ministries are renamed like—

    Shipping Ministry : In order to broaden the purview of maritime policy making and bring clarity in functioning of the departments, the central government has renamed the Shipping Ministry as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, in November, 2020.

    Ministry of Human Resource Development Renamed : President Ram Nath Kovind on August 17, 2020 gave assent to the change in name of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) as Ministry of Education (MoE) as recommended by new National Education Policy, 2020.  The Ministry of Education was renamed as the HRD ministry in 1985 during the tenure of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

    Separate Department of Fisheries : The Department of Fisheries is one of the two Departments under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. It came into existence with effect from February 05, 2019 through carving out Fishery Division from the erstwhile Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. 

          Ministry of Jal Shakti : The Ministry of Jal Shakti was established in May 2019 under the Government of India. Two ministries namely the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, as well as the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, were merged together to form the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Jal Shakti Ministry focuses on issues such as international and inter-state water disputes, cleaning of the Ganga, its tributaries and sub-tributaries and also aims in providing clean drinking water. The formation of this ministry targets towards the mounting water challenges faced by India over the past few decades.
